► (1598-1680) Pintor, escultor y arquitecto italiano. Fue el artista más emblemático de la Contrarreforma y del Barroco. Como arquitecto hizo el
Baldaquino del altar mayor de la basílica de San Pedro del Vaticano. Construyó la
Escala Regia (1663-66) y la
Columnata del Vaticano, y las iglesias de San Andrés del Quirinal (1678) y de Castelgandolfo (1661). Cultivó la pintura:
Martirio de san Mauricio. Pero es en la escultura donde Bernini se revela como el auténtico genio del Barroco.

en Francesco de Este (1650-51) y sobre todo en su más obra famosa:
